Overview:
KPV is a synthetic tripeptide composed of the amino acids lysine, proline, and valine.
It is derived from the C-terminal end of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH),
but unlike full melanocortin peptides, KPV does not significantly stimulate melanocortin receptors associated with pigmentation.
KPV has primarily been studied for its potential anti-inflammatory properties.
Proposed Mechanisms (Preclinical Research)
Laboratory and animal studies suggest KPV may:
  • Modulate inflammatory cytokine production (e.g., TNF-α, IL-6)
  • Inhibit NF-κB signaling pathways
  • Reduce oxidative stress markers
  • Support epithelial barrier integrity
  • Exhibit antimicrobial activity in certain experimental models
Unlike larger melanocortin peptides, KPV’s effects appear more focused on
inflammatory regulation rather than pigmentation or appetite signaling.
Research Areas
KPV has been investigated in preclinical settings for:
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) models
  • Colitis and gut barrier dysfunction
  • Dermatological inflammation
  • Wound healing models
  • Immune response modulation
Most research remains at the in vitro (cell culture) or animal study level.
Human clinical trials are limited.
Evidence & Regulatory Status
  • KPV is considered investigational.
  • It is not approved by major regulatory agencies (FDA, EMA) for therapeutic use.
  • Long-term safety data in humans are limited.
